Juneteenth: Forever Free
More than a shirt—this is a wearable tribute to Black Texas history and Juneteenth memory.
Designed by Austin-based artist Chika Otuata and conceptualized by historian Javier Wallace, this piece draws from deep research into Texas's Black past. Inspired by the bold aesthetics of ’80s and ’90s Juneteenth shirts, every symbol in the design tells a story—from the Gold Dollar newspaper founded by Rev. Jacob Fontaine, to the legacy of Freedom Colonies, cotton labor, Black churches, burial grounds, and the power of simply being outside on land once denied to us.
“Forever Free” isn’t just a phrase—it’s a declaration. This shirt honors the joy, struggle, and resilience of Black people in Texas and beyond.

Without side seams
Knit in one piece using tubular knit, it reduces fabric waste and makes the garment more attractive
Ribbed knit with seam
Ribbed knit makes the collar highly elastic and helps retain its shape
Shoulder tape
Twill tape covers the shoulder seams to stabilize the back of the garment and prevent stretching
Fabric
Made from specially spun fibers that make very durable and smooth fabric that is perfect for printing. The "Natural" color is made with unprocessed cotton, which results in small black flecks throughout the fabric.
